Region List of Katana

With the addition of The Shogunate of Katana (woo) to the battlemap, I can now list the towns and cities for you.

Captial City - The capital of The Shogunate of Katana, generally accepted to be the biggest city.

Miyako
The capital of the Shogunate of Katana. Is historically the largest city in Katana, however due to The Shogun's construction in Maigahara, Miyako is now matched with size by Maigahara. Miyako is a center for culture and trade. The city is governed by the weakened Mikado. Miyako's streets are often plagued with Ronin (masterless samurai) who are out of work, and at night are filled with monsters, the only safe area is Gosho (the palace).

Normal Cities - Cities in The Shogunate of Katana that are not ports.

Maigahara
One of the largest cities in Katana. Historically (10 years ago), it is the site where The Shogun (Anekoji Tadakatsu) defeated his rival (Hiraizumi Ujiyasu) once and for all to become the new Shogun, at that time it was just plains. However, after Anekoji Tadakatsu built a castle in the middle of Maigahara that has resulted in it flourishing into a city rich with security and technology. The fortification in the center is the large "Takamado Castle" where Anekoji rules Katana from, the city is only second in size to Miyako.

Tokitsukasa
Goverened by Arisugawa, and being a major agricultural source. Tokitsukasa has always traditionally been allied to the Mikado and the court. Many old customs remain that are not seen in other cities, including plantations owned by the kuge (most of which have been forcefully dismantled by daimyos under The Shogun).

Sazen
A rural region and an entryway into the Sachu and Sago regions. It's also renowned for it's metal making, a lot of powerful Katanas can be made in Sazen. It is governed by the samurai: Dazai. Years ago, Sazen was ruled by the Soga clan, a bloody war took place between them and Sachu (which was run by the Hayashi clan at the time), the Hayashi clan was victorious and the Soga clan defeated.

Satago Yama
A mountainous region in southern Katana, known to be a major reijo (spiritual place) for monks and yamabushi to train. Jozoin temple is a center of study and practice for many tired and restless souls. Some of the monks that are here, are very critical of both The Mikado and The Shogun, making people skeptic they want to be in Katana at all. It is governed by Ankokuji Seimei.

Sachu
A rural region known for it's fishing industry. The fisherman often have to engage into battle with pirates to get their catches. It is goverened by Kikuchi, whos renowned for his spearmanship and own type of spear head. There are supposedly monster attacks between Sachu and Sago. It's fortifications include "Sachu Castle", not much else is known about it.

Sago
A rural region renowned for it's strong winds and evergeen forests. Farming is hard because of the conditions, but the region has fostered many great warriors. It's fortifications is the Sagojo, and it is goverened Jinnouchi, who runs his fief in a "fair, just manner". There are supposedly monster attacks between Sachu and Sago. Sago's fortifications include "Sago Castle."

Enjukai
A vast region of an ancient forest. Reppusai governs Enjukai, so the Kurama Ninja Clan is all over it, this is supposedly where they train. The fortifications the town has is a big manor called the Kuramakaku. This manor has hundred of traps and secret passages making attacking difficult in several different ways. Enjukai is also roaming with many monsters, making it tough for people who intend to get into mainland Katana from Oodomari.

Shozan
Goverened by the Daimyo Gamou, this is presumably the base of The Gamou ninjas, now enemies of the Kurama Ninja Clan.

Ports - Katana's gateway to the world.

Ogura Minato
Goverened by Yukimune, it is the main port that is used to travel to Miyako. This port region is ripe with Yakuza extorting from weak merchants.

Zuifu
The most south region in all of Katana, it is a strong port governed by Tsuru-hime who in turn joins forces with Yakuza frequently to fight pirates that attack from the seas. Zuifu is an imprtant center of trade.

Oodomari
Governed by naval veteran Mashima, Oodomari is subject to multiple pirate attacks as it is at the northern most tip of Katana.

Other - ???

Takefumi Island - Quiet fisherman's island at the northern tip of Oodomari, explored by the City-States of Jowston in Phase 14. Also explored again in Phase 15 by Jowston in which they dueled Hazuki and won, thus convincing her to join them.

Discovery and Geographical Location

With the discovery of The Shogunate of Katana by The Highland Kingdom in Phase 13, we know the whereabouts of the country itself.

The Shogunate of Katana, as it was discovered.

Katana is situated to the east of The Island Nations Federation, and thus, North East of The Queendom of Falena.

The Highland Kingdom discovered The Shogunate of Katana when exploring the southern seas, after a while they found themselves under attack by pirates, but were aided at the last minute by Tsunayoshi, who is the daimyo of Oodomari. However, since The Shogun has installed a policy of isolationism, he was forbidden from taking The Highland Kingdom back to Katana, he did however give them a gift - a book on military history.

Katana's Backstory, Plot and History

Uji's thoughts and feelings for Phase 14...

There is a fair amount of backstory to the Shogunate of Katana, and thanks to a bit of new information a lot is revealed about how Katana is the way we see it.

Hiraizumi Ujiyasu dominated Katana, using "forbidden magic" to turn citizens and families against each other, for what reason is unknown, he had this power by using some thing called the "demon hound", more on that later.

Hiraizumi Ujiyasu seemed to be the "bad guy" of the old days, for those of you who want someone to compare him to, it'd probably be simple for me to say Oda Nobunaga in a video game or something, but since he wasn't really an undead dude with magical powers, even that comparison is complete trash. Hiraizumi Ujiyasu used a "demon hound" to give himself amazing powers unseen before in the world, six samurai known as "The Samurais of Inuyama", led by Terumiya Kanesada fought and were able to defeat Ujiyasu after many years and even then only one of them in the end survived. Now presumably this one samurai who survived was Anekoji Tadakatsu, the current Shogun of Katana, but even that is blurry, what is known is that Anekoji Tadakatsu's and Hiraizumi Ujiyasu's armies had a battle on the plains of Maigahara (10 years ago), where Ujiyasu was defeated and apparently commited seppuku (for those that do not know, seppuku is ritual suicide that was practiced in Japan, look it up if you want to know more). Whether or not we'll discover if Tadakatsu is one of the spoken samurai, we may never know, or we may find out soon, time will tell.

What should worry people nowadays, is that this "demon hound" which gave Ujiyasu his power, was lost, and is presumably still in Katana for some fool to unleash upon the world once again, whether it changes someone's mentality or just gives them power is unknown, what is known however is that it can all happen again. Seems Ujiyasu's foolishness cost Katana a lot of men and women needlessly...

Onto more simple and plain things, Tsunayoshi has been relieved of his position as daimyo of Oodomari, basically he spent too much time on the seas in foreign affairs hunting and battling pirates instead of tending to his fief and helping it's citizens. Hes ironically been replaced by a veteran naval officer - Mashima, who will presumably take the advice to tend more to internal affairs than external.

I'll also get around to updating the character lists, just wait until they've all been added and I'll attempt to fish through them all and add. Also, I was asked what Tsunayoshi's opening battle speech was in the battle involving Highland and the Pirates.

Tsunayoshi wrote:
我々の海を守るのだ ; !

I'm not really a Japanese speaker or reader, however much I'd like to be, but this - I think means something along the lines of "To protect our seas!", which makes sense.

Thats all for now, I hope you enjoyed.

EDIT: Finally updated all the characters onto the list, they should all be there.

Katana Hierarchy and Titles

Tenno
Currently held by: Mikado

The Emperor of Katana who is only known as "Mikado" until after his death when he is given a name. Emperors of Katana have very little power due to the military might of The Shogun who controls Katana via the barrel of a gun. Most Kuge however are loyal to him over The Shogun and stay around Miyako (Gosho) and Tokitsukasa where the last Kokushi (Arisugawa) governs.

(Tenno is a name for the Emperor which is usually used when referred to as a head of state or in religious terms)

Shogun
Currently held by: Anekoji Tadakatsu

The Shogun of Katana is a military post that has absolute rule over Katana. The Shogun is of noble blood tracing back to the very first Shoguns (who themselves descend from the old Emperors). The authority of The Shogun comes from military might and his daimyo which he usually exercises total control over. The current Shogun - Anekoji Tadakatsu defeated the previous Shogun under mysterious circumstances on a set of plains called Maigahara which he later built a castle on causing it to flourish as a city. He has also installed a policy of isolationism, rejecting any foreigners and having them sentenced to death without trial.

Karou
Currently held by: Anekoji Minetsugu

Karou is a senior retainer of The Shogun, usually equivalent to "vice administrator" of foreign lands. In this case it is held by The Shogun's son - Anekoji Minetsugu who aids his father in military matters and the governing of all Katana.

Sanbou
Currently held by: Fujiwara no Yasutsune

Sanbou is the post of strategist or "head planner." Military matters can be thought out and devised by the Sanbou. The post is held by Fujiwara no Yasutsune who currently aids Zuifu no Metsuke (Tsuru-hime) against pirates from the south.

Zuifu no Metsuke
Currently held by: Tsuru-hime

Metsuke is a rank in which is assigned to Daimyo (or in this case a Shugo) who supervise their retainers and fief to police them when necessary. It is likely this title refers to her activities involving foreigners in Zuifu as well.

Hatamoto
Currently held by: Unknown

Hatamoto are Samurai in direct service of The Shogun (royal guards).
