Anyone here play tennis?

I used to play tennis for my school and played tennis at my high school as well. Its a fun sport and I rarely enjoy it. Its my second favorite sport to play next to soccer.

Though I think this will be my last year playing for a team, since it takes a lot of time from school and other things and I really dont get much benefit out of it. I still will prob play it with some friend though =D

I love tennis. Watching it, playing it-- I love it. ^^ I play on my school's varsity tennis team, as I know some fellow Tintoan's may already know. We have practice every day from 2:30-4:30, which can get pretty tiring, but it's worth it because I've improved my game so much in the past month or so. We have a match tomorrow, in fact. Should be fun.

As for watching-- it's my opinion that Roger Federer is the single greatest athlete of our time. Yes, even greater than Tiger Woods, or Micheal Jordon. I believe even Tiger Woods has acknowledged just what an amazing athlete Roger Federer is as the last U.S. Open. Not only is he an amazing Tennis player, though-- he's also fun to watch. I remember watching Pete Sampras (still considered one of the best Tennis players of all time) back in his day, and being bored with the way he played. He just didn't play with any finesse. That's why Andre Agassi is my favorite Tennis player. He may not have been able to beat Sampras many times in his career, however he was so much more entertaining a player to watch.

I recall I've been sent to summer tennis camp for several summers in a row when I was in elementary and middle school...

Strange thing about it is that everytime I pick up the racket I always have to relearn how to hold it :? (hmm...it's like that with ping pong too...weird...)

Haven't played it much for awhile though...since ya need at least one other person to play it with (unless ya got that darn ball-spitting machine)

Plus, lazy bum I am.

I suck at playing tennis, but I love watching it and I follow the sport quite decently. Not to the point of following every single tournament happening in the world, but at least the Grand Slams, and other bigger stuff.

As for Roger Federer being best athlete, I disagree. He's awesome for sure, but he's dominating the tennis world by being on a different level than everyone else. For Sampras era, there were Agassi, Courier, Edberg, Becker, Kafelnikov, etc that are consistently challenging Sampras. Then there were also guys like Kuerten and Ivanisevic who are specialists (Kuerten on clay, Ivanisevic on grass) that proved to be quite a challenge for sure.

When it comes to current men's tennis scene, we see A LOT of talent in Roddick, Nadal, Blake, Haas, Davydenko, etc, but none of them are consistently good. Nadal was the only one who defeated Federer in a Grand Slam last year, and that's because Nadal is a clay specialist too. Tennis players who chase Federer these days are more brawling among themselves for #2.

While what Federer achieved is definitely magnificent and to a certain extent, unbelievable, I think he got it much easier due to the lack of competition. There are a lot of competitors, but none of them are good enough.

Slightly off-topic, but I'd consider Michael Phelps as the current best athlete in the world. He dominates the swimming scene like nuts. Almost bringing home 8 gold medals out of the last world championship, losing the 8th because of a teammate's faulty start during the relay. His 7 gold medals from a single major event tied the record by Spitz back in 70s Olympics. Clearly though, compared to the 70s, Phelps has swum much quicker which showed how dominant he is in the sport.

Gil-galad, your love for Roger Federer does not run deep enough! Not only is he the greatest athlete of our time, you didn't say he was the greatest tennis player of all time. All the greats have said it, except for Sampras of course, but he's just mad that Federer is better then him, and doesn't want to admit it. Stupid Pete Sampras.

My brother even has an account on this, The Rog, named after our dear friend Roger. But I'm pretty sure he only posted for a day or two.

I can't wait for the clay court season where he finally beats that punk Nadal.

While I can't deny the fact that he hardly has any consistent competition, Aurelien, I really think that's more due to the fact that he so greatly overshadows all the other players on hard courts, and especially on grass. Just focusing on the skill of the player himself, and not the competition around him, I'd say that Federer plays a much more beautiful game than any of the other tennis greats I've had the pleasure of watching. Also, I have no love for Pete Sampras, if I didn't make that clear enough before. ^^

As for Micheal Phelps being the best athlete in the world right now, I would definitely say he's up there. He's a terrific swimmer. Especially because of the fact that swimming has become a much more competitive and very quick sport in recent year.

This thread makes me want a Roger Federer avatar. I had an Agassi banner for a while here. ^^

I have to thank that oddly addicting Anime The Prince of Tennis for getting me interested enough in tennis for me to join the team this year. Until now, I haven't practice tennis on a regular basis since I was twelve years old. So yeah, if I didn't take that long ass hiatus I would probably been the second best player on my team.

I don't watch professional tennis mainly due to me being way too busy, and having idea when it's on. But I do fancy them Andy Roddick and Anna Kournikova. Mostly because those are the only two professional names I know.

Roger Federer beat Rafael Nadal earlier this week to win the Hamburg Masters Tournament. I wouldn't be posting the result if it we're on clay. Federer topping Nadal on clay is really quite unexpected. I'm looking forward to seeing if Federer can carry over this success on clay to next week when the French Open begins. Perhaps he can finally claim the one Grand Slam that has eluded him all this time. Should be a good watch.
