I've never been carded for buying games ( of course I've never been carded for beer either) but I see it happen to others and I think it's a good thing. People need to be carded for the rating system to mean anything. I think in Thor's case, the place might have just been a little too strict with it.

I think it depends where you go.

When I go drinking I dress smart and dont shave for a week or so. Abd there are certain places where the rules are more lax. My favourite Pub the 'Carpe Diem' is one such place. 6 shots of teqiula for a fiver, there is a god!

The only time I remember ever being carded was at a bar. And frankly I think it was because the employee doing it was trying to flirt with my friend. Otherwise, I've never really been carded anywhere. Clubs, stores or anywhere else. Which is funny because people who know me think I look way younger than I am.

I had a sudden compulsion to buy Medieval 2: Total War a while back so went to my local supermarket to pick it up. Now Medieval 2's a sixteen rated game, so I didn't expect any trouble with ID. But when I went through the checkout, I saw the cashier look at me, look at the box and look back at me. She'd just started to open her mouth when I said "I'm twenty one. Seriously." She went bright red and said something like "Just checking...". I also went bright red (who gets ID'd for a sixteen rated game at twenty one???), mumbled "Thanks..." and quickly walked off.

I don't buy games from there anymore.

I never worked behind the till in a video game store, only handling stock, but if I did I would ID you even if you there was a slight chance you were under 18. For starters, I'm the kind of person who doesn't like the idea of people watching things when they aren't a suitable age to do so. Even though the concept of a "suitable" age is very unusual.

However I would hate to lose my job and face legal action because I didn't ID someone. Most people should know to carry ID with them these days anyway, for a number of reasons.

I got carded for buying a lighter when I was 21. I think you have to be 16.

In North Carolina at least, it's 18.

I have never been carded for buying a video game, and I'm 17.

I once worked for the satanic company known as "Gamestop". We had to card anyone who looked under 30. If we sold a mature game to a minor, and their parent had a problem with it and made a complaint, the seller of the game and their manager would be fired. Whether they would fire the manager or not, I don't know. Probably a scare tactic. I had a lady come in yelling about how someone sold her 7 year old an M game. It was a guy from another store. To help save face for them, I just gave her the money back without questions. Stupid Gamestop....they abused us :(

That's okay. I've had stupider happen. I am 33, I can buy porn, drinks, and smokes, no problem. But getting into an arcade....I was carded. Now I look a little bit younger then 33, but come one. Carding to get into an arcade.

You know, it may seem really ridiculous to alot of people, but I really think it's a good thing.
When I worked at GameStop they suddenly cracked down on the whole "M" Rated game thing. I won't bore you all with the details, but the low-down was that if we sold/reserved an "M" rated game to ANYONE under the age of 18, unless they had a PARENT with them (not just a companion over the age of 18), then not only would the associate who made te mistake be fired, but the assistant manager, manager and district manager would be severely disciplined—up to and including termination, no kidding.
No questions. No arguments. No matter how long you've worked there with a clean record. (This is when I told them where they could shove the job and left. I didn't work my way up through those sweat shop ranks in order to be treated like a was a rule-breaker when I hadn't done anything.)

Anyway, there are things in A LOT of recent M rated games that I, personally, don't think are appropriate. I support the rating system and I vigorously support the efforts retailers are making to make sure that the parents of children are at least marginally aware of what is in the games tey're playing.

Anyway.

I get carded all the time. (Actually, I don't do that many things that require ID, come to think of it...O_o) I'm 23 and I have the youngest face--people don't believe me when I tell them I'm a college grad. Though, it HAS been a year or so since anyone accused me of being a Junior High school student wandering around a college campus...

I actually made this thread because I was just initially shocked (I didn't think it would be revived...). However, following the events that happened at Virginia Tech and the fact that the same cashier checked my ID after I made a rather large purchase a few weeks ago proved to me that it is just standard procedure. So, yes, it is a good thing. However, I was under the impression that I looked older than or at least close to my current age.

I'm now 20, and often buy cigarettes for my friends, and things like that. I think otu of the 50+ times, I've been carded twice. To think I struggled getting my ID because a lot of the stuff I needed was stolen. I hardly get use out of the thing!

And that arcade BETTER have had lots of alcohol and nudity, Earthquake :*laugh*:

You can get carded for a lighter? D: I don't think that I ever got carded for one before. That's a bit odd. O.o

I got carded for buying rum truffles for my grandmother once. It was an import store, and sure enough, there was a sticker on the back of the box asking that the cashier card people purchasing them. Weirdest thing. D:
