Choices that can make you lose an SOD (spoilers)

I read that in the second half of the game , you are given a choice to protect your homebase from Childerich OR attack Armes army, and if you choose the first one you lose Roy (the hero double).

Is it possible to choose to defend HQ against Childerich and manage to keep Roy ?

Yes, if you choose to stay and defend the castle rather than leave, my understanding is that you lose Roy. I don't believe there is any way to keep him (i took that path my first playthrough).
